2017 Percussion Theatre –MuLan in Russia
Musical instruments, movement, song, and body language pirouette with the sounds of percussion.
Enjoy this vivid interpretation of the life of legendary MuLan through Peking Opera ballads and percussive sound.
Through monologue, song, and marimba, MuLan tells her story. Martial arts techniques, movement, stick fighting, and acrobatic skills are integrated into the performance, such that Peking Opera and percussion become one.
This tour is on an international scale and combines traditional and modern elements. Playing on the rhythm of Peking Opera’s 18 Movement Sticks, sonorous music brings to life the scent of battle and the intensity of martial confrontation. Video montages depict MuLan’s continuing shift of focus from the battlefield of the present, to her childhood home of long ago and far away.
